- Became the Provincial Chief Water Commissioner headquartered in Victoria.
- Both James and brother Francis Patrick (1861-1923) are buried at Ross Bay Cemetery.
- Loyalist Ancestor: Jesse Armstrong, 1745-1827, Lake Maskinonge, Quebec.
