    •  Judge and politician; b. 3 Nov. 1741 in Brookfield, Mass., second son of Dr Jabez Upham and Katharine Nichols; d. 1 Nov. 1808 in London, England.
    • A representative of the Massachusetts tory élite who supported the British during the American revolution, lawyer Joshua Upham (1741–1808) nonetheless sympathized with the colonists’ grievances. When the colony of New Brunswick was established in 1784, he was appointed a judge on the Supreme Court and named to the Council.
