- The Sharp family were close associates of Peter Van Alstine from Kinderhook, Albany County, New York. John Sharp was a tailor who followed Van Alstine underground, north to join Burgoyne and to Quebec and back to New York. It appears that Sharp joined the Jessup’s Rangers for a time but was back in New York to accompany Peter Van Alstine’s company of Associated Loyalists to Sorel. Although mustered in Adolphustown, he moved to join his brother Gysbert in Township Number 2 (Ernestown) west of Cataraqui.
