- Was born in Lancaster, Ontario.
- Bathia married A. L. Fortune from Huntington, Quebec in 1862 in Ontario. In that same year four months later, Fortune joined the “”Overlander Party” of approximately 138 adventurers headed by Thomas McMicking, to walk across the country to the Cariboo gold fields. He would not see his wife again for 12 years.
- Fortune played an important part in opening the Enderby district and AL Fortune Secondary School in Enderby is named for him. Indeed, the first white settlers called his home on the river where the steamboat landed Fortune’s Landing.
- Fortune returned to Ontario get Bathia in 1874.
