William Arthur Carlyle, 1862-1947
- Born in Hamilton, Hamilton, Ontario.
- Graduated in mining engineering at McGill University.
- B.C. ‘s first Provincial Mineralogist and organizer of the bureau of mines in 1895. Resigned in 1898 to become engineer of charge of mines in Rossland.
- Founding member of the Canadian Institute of Mines and Metallurgy.
- Grand nephew of Thomas Carlyle. Brother of Artist Florence Carlyle in National Gallery
- Manager of Rio Tinto mine in Spain. William, his wife and two children were part of the 1911 England census living in Wimbledon.
