Robert Burns McMicking, 1843-1915

  • He made his way overland from Ontario to the Cariboo gold fields in a party headed by his brother Thomas in 1862. 
  • Victoria representative for Bell Telephone. In 1878, he invited local notables to see the first telephone calls between his office and the newsroom of the British Colonist. 
  • Led the adoption of electrical lighting and telephone services in Victoria.
  • Loyalist Ancestors: Thomas McMicking IV,  1750-1830 & William McClellan,  1740-1828
  • Buried at Ross Bay Cemetery.
