Bell, Peter Warren Wentworth Jr.


  • Born in Goderich, Ontario. 1878-1944
  • Son of Chief Factor of the Hudson’s Bay Company who died on the sinking of then Islander off Juneau Alaska in 1901. 
  • His maternal great grandfather was Chief Factor Y.W. Dease, of Dease and Simpson, the celebrated Hudson’s Bay Arctic explorers. Also has strong Metis ancestry. 
  • Attended Royal Military College, fought in the Boer War in 1900.
  • Worked as a civil engineer in South Africa, Egypt, and China. In B.C., resident engineer of Cariboo Highway and District Engineer for Department of Public Works.  
  • Loyalist Ancestor: Second Great Grandfather John Baptiste Dease, 1744-1801. Dease’s mother was  a daughter of Sir William Johnson (1715-1774) baronet, who was the Superintendent of Indian Affairs for then Province of New York.
