Mary Agnes (nee Ap’John) Yardley

Victoria UELAC Early Member: Mary Agnes (nee Ap’John) Yardley, 1889 – 1963

  • Born in Rainy River, Ontario.
  • In 1921 Census, 24 years, single, living with parents at Rothesay, New Brunswick. Moved to Victoria in 1927.
  • Buried in Royal Oak Cemetery. Mother is Buried at Royal Oak. Mother Agnes Stackhouse is the UE connection.  Sister Olive is also at Royal Oak.  Sister Fannie Louise published a book called the Enchanted Island – A Fairy Tale in 1919. Died in 1922. Brother  Frank James Ap’John was killed in WW I and is buried in the Croury British Cemetery, Croury-Sur-Somme, Somme, France. 
  • Occupation is listed as stenographer and was the Correspondence Secretary for Victoria UELAC.
  • UE Loyalist Ancestor: Robert Stackhouse and his brother, Joseph, joined the 1st New Jersey Volunteers, where Robert served as a sergeant in Captain Hutchinson’s company. Robert was discharged on 10 October 1783 after six years and five months of service. On 11 August 1784 he was granted land (blocks 97 and 98) in Carleton , N.B.
