Josiah Stirtan, 1847-1926
- In 1869 he left Ontario. He established a footwear factory and a tannery in Victoria and was present in 1871 when B.C. joined Canada.
- By 1879, was the engineer responsible for the construction of Nanaimo’s first waterworks system. Also a director of the British Columbia Tanning Company and a justice of the peace.
