Israel Wood Powell, 1835-1915

• Member of the last parliament of  Colony of Vancouver Island before unification with the Colony of B.C.
• Drafted bill providing for the establishment of public schools. 
• 1st flag of the Dominion of Canada, of which BC had just become a part, was received in Victoria by Dr. I W Powell.
• Powell River and Powell Street, Vancouver are named for Powell.
• Loyalist Ancestors: Caleb Wood, 1723-1794 & Caleb Powell, 1727-1787.
• Buried at Ross Bay Cemetery.
