He studied law at Upper Canada College. Came to B.C. for the Cariboo Gold Rush, but on reaching Victoria decided to stay.
After practicing law for some years, in 1871 (at the age of 35) he accepted the position of registrar-general for B.C.
Occupied a mansion called The Gables on scenic Gorge Road.
Buried at Ross Bay Cemetery. In the grave photo, he is in an unmarked grave in front of the headstone.
Loyalist Ancestor: Michael Showers, 1733-1796 & Levi Lewis, 1735-1799.
