Hugh Bowlby Wilson Aikman, 1836-1904

  • He studied law at Upper Canada College. Came to B.C. for the Cariboo Gold Rush, but on reaching Victoria decided to stay.  
  • After practicing law for some years, in 1871 (at the age of 35) he accepted the position of registrar-general for B.C.
  • Occupied a mansion called The Gables on scenic Gorge Road.
  • Buried at Ross Bay Cemetery. In the grave photo, he is in an unmarked grave in front of the headstone.
  • Loyalist Ancestor: Michael Showers, 1733-1796 & Levi Lewis, 1735-1799.
