Loyalist Ancestor: John McAlpine, 1748-1827. published a memoir of his experiences from 1773-1779. It painted the Americans a “rebels and pillagers” but was also very critical of the British habit of commanders that “distrusted and despised their loyal adherents and substantial friends”.
