Gertrude Edith Clare (nee Powell)  Lang-Hyde,  1866-1945

  • Born in Victoria, B.C. May have been the first UEL descendent born on Vancouver Island. 
  • Mother of Corisande Langworthy and sister of Mary Doig who were both Victoria UELAC Early Members. 
  • Second marriage was to Lieut.-Colonel John Lang-Hyde who was also descended from the UE Loyalist Daniel Dafoe of Hay Bay, Lennox and Addington. He was already 70 years old when they married. 
  • When passed, family home was 930 Pemberton Road, Victoria. 
  • Loyalist Ancestor: Caleb Powell, 1727-1787 and Caleb Wood, 1723-1794.
