Frederick Peters

Frederick Peters, 1852-1919

  • Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
  • Elected to the House of Assembly in 1890. In 1891 he was elected leader of the Liberal Party and formed Government and became the 6th Premier of Prince Edward Island until he resigned in 1897.
  • Married to the daughter of past Premier of Prince Edward Island and Father of Confederation John Hamilton Gray. 
  • He became the town Solicitor at a time when Prince Rupert was transitioning from a frontier company town to a port city. He remained there until his death in 1919.
  • Loyalist Ancestor: James Peters – Came to this Province as Agent for the Loyalist in 1783. He was the leader of the “Spring Fleet”, the band of Long Island exiles landing in the mouth of the Saint John. In 1785 it became New Brunswick Colony.
