  • Find a GRAVE Biography:
    • United Empire Loyalist. He emigrated from Germany and settled with other members of his family in Pennsylvania in 1769. In 1775 he was conscripted into the American forces at the start of hostilities between the colonies and England. He was captured by the British at the Battle of Long Island.
    • He, as did many prisoners at that time, joined the much better fed and clothed British forces. He was in the 7th Company, 84th Regiment of Foot, 2nd Battalion when mustered out of the army at Fort Edward, now Windsor, Nova Scotia. He was given a grant in Douglas Township, Hants County, Nova Scota as part of the grant given to Colonel Small (now East Hants County) settling on the Kennetcook River where he built a grist mill and a shingle mill.
    • Enlisted with the 2nd Battalion Associators of Pennsylvania; captured at the Battle of Brooklyn Heights, sent to Halifax, enlisted in the Royal Highland Emigrants, discharged and given a grant of land.
