    • A native of Germany, Christopher German lived near Fort Edward, New York when the Rebellion broke out. A shoemaker, German joined the British on Lake Champlain in 1776 and served in Major Jessup’s Regiment all through the war until he was discharged. Christopher German joined Peter Van Alstine’s company of Associated Loyalists. There were four in the German family at Sorel and another woman joined his wife and two sons in Adolphustown. Although there was only Christopher with Van Alstine in New York and Sorel, his brother John Jr. brought his three sons Christopher (Jr.), John Jr. and Jacob into the Adolphustown settlement. All the sons were teenagers but also active in Jessup’s Rangers, the youngest, Jacob, a mere drummer boy. Although recognized on the U.E. list as a Jessup’s Ranger, Christopher Sr. was Associated through his evacuation with Van Alstine.
