Milton Acorn

Meet Milton J. Acorn — “The People’s Poet.” Born on Prince Edward Island (Mar 30, 1923), Acorn served in WWII and carried its scars for life. A voice for ordinary Canadians, he won the Canadian Poets Award (1970) and the Governor General’s Award (1976) for The Island Means Minago. In 1977 he invented the Jackpine sonnet — irregular, spiky, and distinctly Canadian — weaving internal rhyme and assonance instead of fixed line counts. Remembering a poet who mixed craft with conscience. #MiltonAcorn #PeoplesPoet #CanadianPoetry #JackpineSonnet Link: https://uelac.ca/loyalist-directory/detail/?wpda_search_column_id=11 Link: https://uelcanada.ca/acorn-milton/
