- Conway, Edward Cartwright, P.L.S. : 1864 to 1938, Born in Toronto 14th of October 1864 the eldest son of Reverend Conway Edward Cartwright and Mary Letisha Cartwright. He was of United Empire Loyalist descent. He received his early education at private schools later he attended the Royal Military College at Kingston where he was noted for his proficiency in mathematics and as a rifle shot.
- Upon graduation from Kingston in 1884 he was offered a Commission in the Royal Artillery but preferred to follow a career as a civil engineer. For the year 1885 to 1888 he was an engineer on the Pontiac Pacific railway at Fort Coulanges. Later he worked on survey work in Nova Scotia and Salem MA also in private practice in Norfolk, Virginia.
- In 1896 he became an assistant chief engineer of the New York and Ottawa railway station in Cornwall, Ontario. While there he had charge of the construction of the bridge across the Saint Lawrence River. In the year 1899 he was made assistant division engineer of Canadian Pacific Railway Pacific division. In the year 1905 is made division engineer of Pacific Division.
- In 1910 he resigned from the Canadian Pacific Railway and entered private practice in Vancouver in partnership with AJ Matheson. Until a few months before his death he was a consulting engineer for the Vancouver Harbour Board.
