Briggs, Thomas Lasher

  • 1839 – 1920
  • Born in Kingston, Ontario and was already in Victoria in 1874 operating a wholesale hardware store. 
  • He married Mary Irving, daughter of Captain William Irving who founded and operated an early steamship company moving passengers and materials between Victoria and Yale to meet the demands of the Cariboo Gold Rush.  
  • When William Irving died in 1872, Thomas moved to New Westminster to jointly manage the Canadian Pacific Navigation Company with his brother-in-law John.
