Hugh Bowlby Wilson Aikman

Meet Hugh Bowlby Wilson Aikman — lawyer, Gold Rush hopeful turned Vancouver Island settler. Trained in law at Upper Canada College, he came west for the Cariboo Gold Rush but stayed in Victoria. After years in practice, he became B.C.’s registrar-general in 1871 at age 35. He lived at the scenic Gables on Gorge Road and is buried at Ross Bay Cemetery — pictured in an unmarked grave in front of the headstone. Remembering a contributor to early B.C. civic life. #BCHistory #VictoriaBC #RossBayCemetery
