Alger, Ross Patterson

Meet Ross Patterson Alger (Aug 20, 1920 – Jan 16, 1992) — Calgary’s 31st mayor (1977–1980). Born in Prelate, SK, he earned a B.Comm (Univ. of Alberta), served in the RCAF in WWII, and completed an MBA at the University of Toronto before settling in Calgary as an accountant. Public service: school trustee (later chairman), alderman (1971–1974), mayor (1977–1980). Major achievements: CTrain’s first leg, Calgary’s bid for the XV Olympic Winter Games, and planning for the Olympic coliseum. Diagnosed with cancer in 1985, he died in 1992. #CalgaryHistory #YYC #CTrain
