Van Horne, Cornelius

  • From Voyage of a Different Kind: The Associated Loyalists of Kingston and Adolphustown by Larry Turner, Mika Publishing Company, Belleville, Ont. 1984.
    • Cornelius Van Horne (1755 or 58 – 1815)
    • Cornelius Van Horne was raised in the Hackensack River Valley near Pascate in Bergen County, New Jersey. Second son of Lucas Van Horne and Jemima Demarest. Cornelius was supported in his Loyalist activities by brother Gerrit but opposed by brothers Johannis and Daniel. Judgment was made against Cornelius in 1778 and his estate was given up in 1779. Although described by Van Alstine as a weaver from New York, he was clearly raised and working in New Jersey before the war. A part of the Commissory General’s Department in New York City, he joined Van Alstine’s company of Associated Loyalists and took his seventeen year old brother Gerrit (in 1783) into Sorel and Adolphustown with him.
