    • James Kerr was born in December 1754 (based on his age at death) at Dumfriesshire, Scotland
    • He served as Captain in the Queens Ranger during the American Revolution 
    • On July 10, 1782, in New York, he married Elizabeth Brown, daughter of John Brown and Margaret Rozelle. After the Revolution they were among those who returned to the UK to petition for land, where three of their children were born. They settled first in Parrtown, Saint John, New Brunswick, and owned a home in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, where he served as a Colonel in the Nova Scotia militia. He may have practiced medicine and served as a justice of the peace.
    • Col. James Kerr died 6 Jun 1830 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, at age 75. The 23 Jun 1830 edition of The New Brunswick Royal Gazette reported: “d. Amherst, N.S., Sunday 6th, James Kerr, Esq., age 76, native of Dumfriesshire, Scotland, Capt. Queens Rangers in Revolutionary War, left wife, 11 and 12 children, lost 3 sons 1 daughter.”. He was buried in the Old Burying Grounds, West Amherst, Cumberland, Nova Scotia
    • Elizabeth (Brown) Kerr died on 14 Apr 1840 in Cornwallis, at age 73. She was buried in Old Burying Grounds, West Amherst, Cumberland Co, NS
