- Matthew Clark was the first son born to Robert and Isabel Clark in Dutchess County New York on October 3, 1771. He married Ann McCoy who was born in Lower Canada (Quebec) on February 12, 1772.
- Matthew Clark was a Captain of the Militia in active service in the War of 1812, and subsequently was for many years a Colonel and commanded the 1st regiment of Addington Militia. In 1823 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada. During the last 34 years of his life his name was on the Commission of the Peace for the Midland District. He died “at peace with his Maker and with all mankind” at 9:00 pm, June 8, 1848, and was buried at Waterloo. Matthew left 11 sons, 53 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren
