Bogart, Gilbert

  • From: Voyage of a Different Kind by Larry Turner:
    • Gilbert and his son Abraham Bogart were residents of Orangetown or Tapaan on the west side of the Hudson River in Orange County. Gilbert or Gysbert was a soldier in the Loyal Refugees before joining Captain Abraham Maybee’s company number seven of Associated Loyalists in New York. Maybee recognized Abraham on his own in New York but was reunited with his parents in the Sorel list. In his claim for compensation, Gilbert maintained that he owned a farm at Goshen, had built two stone and one frame house, and had livestock. He joined the British in New York in 1777, served in the Engineers Department and also as a guide, especially noted for the taking of rebel Major Blowwett.
