- From: Voyage of a Different Kind by Larry Turner:
- Joseph Allison arrived at Quebec with his wife and two children in Capt. Peter Ruttan’s company six of Associated Loyalists. There is no documentary record of Allison (sometimes spelled Ellison) at Sorel but he settled as a single person with Van Alstine. Joseph was descended from Scottish emigrants from Edinburgh who settled in Haverstraw, Orange County, New York. He served as a private in DeLancey’s Corps of Associated Loyalists, worked in the Navy Yard in New York City and may have also served as a spy.
